Oh those Phuket beaches - yum!

Despite Phukets rep as a bland resort destination there are some beautiful beaches to find, even if some of them are littered with deck chairs.

Hanging out at the beaches wasn't the original motive for venturing to Phuket. The main reason was so Rob could check out a mixed martial arts training camp. He signed up for a week of pain, sweat and daily butt kickings. This camp attracts professional fighters that want to train full time for a few months or weeks leading up to a big fight. Since Rob and I had just come from India where Rob rarely had the space, health or oxygen (in high altitudes) to train, he was hardly up to the same standard as these guys. Consequently, he came back each day battered (mentally and physically) but he assured me that he was learning some useful moves, etc, plus it was not everyday that he could train with guys of that standard.
Whilst Rob was out, I saddled up the scooter ready to explore Phuket. However, the monsoon was making life difficult on a scooter so I was forced to stay indoors quite a bit (not easy to do in Phuket). We spent a few days hanging out at the local shopping centre. Sounds a little boring, no? Not for us! We hadn't been to a shopping centre for 10 months so the size, cleanliness, sparkly objects and the overwhelming choice of material goods amused us for some time.
